Second is of course Plex, there are just no other alternatives that have as wide of a client support. But it will only decode on the client, server is not under any load. It's still technically server-client model, as files are hosted on the server and streamed to your client. I love Plex, but I would use Kodi for TVs and stream from DLNA or Samba share (Plex has DLNA).

You already have a lot of answers, but here are some more thoughts :)įor in-house TV streaming there's really nothing better than just direct-playing things using Kodi. Just looking for everyone's thoughts on what they use and if they do something similar to what I do in my environment.

My alternative would need to be able to account for the following. The only solution is to reboot the Raspberry Pi. For some reason, the video just hangs to the entire interface.

Make sure the server can communicate with hosts (firewall rules, DNS, etc). You may see messages with info such as "Public IP address does not match address from " (not exact wording, but close). Look in Plex Media Server.log for messages regarding double NAT and public IP address. Help, Plex just stopped working like a week ago saying that I'm in a double NAT scenario but I'm just not, I don't know how can I fix this after trying everything I could think of They have their own account at and you share libraries with them via Settings -> Manage Library Access. Many folks have had issues with ISPs providing 5G home internet because it's pretty standard practice to use CGNAT, which means you don't get a real "unique" IPV4 address for to point back to. Sorry to bother yall again but anyone familiar with this? It says its secure then drops an hour later. As soon as I start using my Verizon router its just been one issue after another with plex. Plex says its accessible but I cant access it. I only have one additional profile for my wife, so I just created a user account for that manually. So there wouldn't be any way to have unique logins for those automatically because they don't exist as accounts in the first place. They're just profiles of the main account.
